This weekend

  • Thursday, 6/26 to Saturday, 6/28 — Miss Virginia 2025 at the Berglund Special Events Center (710 Williamson Rd., Roanoke). This year commemorates 90 years of Miss Virginia Pageants in the Commonwealth. All competitions begin at 7 p.m. ($)
  • Thursday, 6/26 to Saturday, 6/28 — “1776 The Musical” at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest (1776 Poplar Forest Parkway, Lynchburg). Bring a chair or a blanket, a picnic dinner (no outside alcohol allowed), and your friends to enjoy a night of theatre under the stars. ($)
  • Thursday, 6/26 to Saturday, 7/5 (closed Sunday) — Buchanan Community Carnival at Buchanan Town Park (485 Lowe St., Buchanan). Come out to enjoy food, including Buchanan’s world famous hand-cut fries, ice cream, and burgers; great music every night; games; and rides! Fireworks on July 4th and 5th.
  • Friday, 6/27 to Sunday, 6/29 — Hidden Valley Country Club Open at The Hidden Valley Country Club (200 Romar Rd., Salem). ($)
  • Saturday, 6/28 to Sunday, 6/29 — WDBJ7’s Star City Slide to benefit the Downtown Ambassador Program in downtown Roanoke (at the intersection of Gainsboro Rd NW., Salem Ave. SW. and 2nd St. SW). An 800 ft. water slide will fill 2nd St. SW, purely for slip and slide summer fun. Wear what you will slide in. Ages 4 to 7 with an adult. Ages 7 and up may slide alone. Purchase timed tickets in advance. ($)

Roanoke St., Fincastle). Long explores a little-known but powerful case that sheds light on race, justice, and society in 19th-century Virginia.
