ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – This Fourth of July is about celebrating more than the birth of the nation at Washington Park. It is honoring and celebrating more than 100 years of history with a big event this year.
Festival coordinators Gregory Hunt and David Burnett joined WFXR News to talk about the history and the upcoming celebration of the park on Friday, July 5, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
People used to call the park ‘Dreamland,’ and Hunt and Burnett explained that the whole area of Gainsboro’s culture is the history and culture of the black community. They say they would hear about ‘Dreamland’, where you can be outside all day and even participate in additional activities around the pool.
