Roanoke is gearing up for the 24th annual Star City Motor Madness

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Thousands of people are gearing up for the 24th annual Berglund Automotive Star City Motor Madness, which is June 27th and 28th. It’s one of the largest automotive events in the commonwealth, with all proceeds going to the Transportation Museum and other local non-profits.

But something new you can see? The Hemmings’ Great Race is making a pit stop right here in the star city. It is a competitive and timed race for classic cars that makes different stops in cities every year. It’s not like other races-drivers can be penalized for showing up at spots earlier than scheduled. The nine-day run begins in Minnesota and ends in South Carolina..

It’ll run right through Virginia, and it’s coming to Roanoke right in time for Motor Madness.

“The Great Race is a very unique opportunity for Roanoke, and particularly not just for car enthusiasts, but anybody that wants to come out and take part of the excitement. They’re going to have a big finish line there.There’s a lot of pomp and circumstance and excitement surrounding the cars as they come in there. Each of them, as they come in, are announced and there’s a description of the car and the driver, where they’re from, everything else.
