Recent testing shows improved water quality at Smith Mountain Lake

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA (WFXR) – This is the third test conducted this summer by the Smith Mountain Lake Association’s water quality monitoring program, which consists of 50 volunteers who visited more than 80 locations across the lake.

There, they test for three things: water clarity, chlorophyll, and phosphorus levels.

“They’re out there on the water as we speak, taking new measurements,” Tom Hardy, the director of the water quality monitoring program, said. “I think they do this out of the love they have for the lake in terms of keeping the public informed about the quality of the water, and it’s really a task that we take seriously.”…
