The Southern Rodeo Association held its SRA/IPRA L-J Pro Rodeo in Wirtz this past weekend featuring eight professional events including bareback, saddle bronc, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. It was a must-see for hundreds of folks who came out to watch cowboys and cowgirls compete in the oldest rodeo association event east of the Mississippi River. Both Friday and Saturday night sold out according to event officials.
“It’s our first time coming to the Double D Arena here in Wirtz,” said rodeo announcer Marvin Blanton. “There’s top talent here that come from throughout the Southeast and Texas. We had about 70-80 participate on Friday, and even more on Saturday night.”
