Federal funding hold could impact Roanoke afterschool programs

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Administrators at Roanoke City Public Schools are worried that a federal funding hold on the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program will affect their afterschool programs for the upcoming academic year.

District Superintendent Verletta White sent a letter to parents back on July 17, warning them that the afterschool programs may undergo some changes this year due to a federal funding hold.

White is optimistic they’ll be able to keep the programs running as usual by using funds left over from the previous school year. But she said there is no guarantee. If funding remains on hold, White said they may have to limit the number of days programs offered, the schools that participate, and the number of students they can accommodate…
