Water levels downstream of Claytor, Leesville dams could rise rapidly through the weekend

(WFXR)- Officials at Appalachian Power are advising boaters, kayakers and tubers to pay attention to water levels downstream of Claytor and Leesville dams.

According to the press release, water levels on the New and Roanoke rivers could rise rapidly, starting on Wednesday, if APCO increases power generation at its hydroelectric plants.

The company was contacted by PJM, an independent agency that manages the electric grid in 13 states,, about the possible need to increase power generation due to increased temperatures. If that happens, water levels below Claytor Dam could increase up to two feet in just a few minutes.
