ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – It’s been a fun summer in Virginia, but it’s almost time for kids to return to the classroom. For the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge, that also means it’s nearly time for the 37th year of the “Y” After School Care Program.
It’s one of the longest-running childcare programs in Roanoke City, and it also serves children across the Roanoke Valley, along with Botetourt and Rockbridge Counties, and the city of Lexington.
“When the kids get out of school, they’re either transported to the Y, or we have a benefit of actually having programs at the schools that they attend, so parents do not have to worry about any kind of transportation after school,” Brandon Duncan, the director of childcare at Roanoke’s Kirk Family YMCA, said. “We have a great partnership with (Roanoke City Public Schools), and they actually provide all the meals.”…
