ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Heat and humidity will be noticeably higher today as high temperatures reach the upper 80s to mid 90s thanks to the ridge of high pressure building in strength. Heat index values will be in the 90s for the mountains and into the upper 90s to low 100s east of the Blue Ridge.
A few pop-up storms may be possible during the afternoon to evening timeframe, mainly near and north of I-64, otherwise expect sun and clouds for the day.

There will be a better chance for pop-up showers and storms in the afternoon and evening hours. It won’t be a washout to cancel plans over, but make sure to keep an eye on the radar for any outdoor activities while staying hydrated and cool.
As we head into the new work week, a few storms remain possible Monday afternoon before they become more isolated by mid-week. It continues to be hot and humid as well. By Thursday, a cold front will push through the area bringing scattered storms and a drop in temperatures to end the week…
