Roanoke churches take prayer to the streets in citywide effort

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – On Saturday, sidewalks across Roanoke became places of peace and prayer as churches participated in the citywide prayer at the curb, a one hour public prayer initiative.

From noon to 1 p.m., members of local churches stepped outside their sanctuaries and onto street corners and sidewalks, dressed in white shirts and denim. Together, they offered encouragement, prayer, and hope to anyone passing by.

“We’ve just seen so much going on in the city … a lot of violence, a lot of people hurting, a lot of people in need,” said Olivia Ward, event organizer and leader at Perfecting Unity Church. “I just wanted to bring churches together to pray and be visible in our community.”…
