Looking for a meaningful (and totally free!) way to get the kids outdoors this week? Join the Pollinator Promenade, a series of guided nature walks happening August 4–8 across the Roanoke area. Hosted by the Clean Valley Council, this family-friendly event invites you to explore beautiful outdoor spaces and discover the fascinating world of pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Each morning from 10 a.m. to noon, participants will enjoy a guided tour of a local pollinator-friendly garden alive with native plants and the creatures that depend on them.
Here’s where the Promenade will take you:
- 🦋 August 4: Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden / Discovery Center
- 🌿 August 5: Kiwanis Nature Park Pollinator Garden at Lower Horton Park
- 🐝 August 6: Brown-Robertson Park / Lick Run Farm
- 🌼 August 7: Mountain View Community Garden
- 🌸 August 8: Washington Park
These relaxed and educational tours are perfect for families of all shapes and sizes. From babies in strollers to curious second graders and up (who can begin to observe and appreciate the plants and insects), there’s something for everyone. It’s a great way for children—and adults—to slow down, explore the outdoors, and learn how pollinators play a crucial role in our food system and environment…
