ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — With the first day of school quickly approaching, partners from across the Roanoke Valley teamed up Saturday for ‘Cuts with Cops,’ a collaborative effort to help get parents and students ready for the new year.
“It is our mission to serve the children in our community and that is what we’re doing with this event,” said Amy Kageals, senior director of Carilion Children’s, which hosted the event.
The Roanoke County Police Department and Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office lead the event, which provides everything from fresh haircuts and new shoes to school supplies and vaccinations.

“A haircut can go a long way to confidence,” said Roanoke County Police Department crime prevention coordinator Caleb Forehand. “School supplies, if [the kids] were not going to have them otherwise, can be a real comfort to the parents. We’re just hoping they come away with what they most need, whether it be police interaction of the physical things we’re providing.”…
