ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Cave Spring High School in Roanoke County celebrates its first day of school a little differently than most. Each year, they designate someone who exemplifies what it means to be a “Cave Spring knight.” It’s been a special tradition since 1961, and is the highest honor given to any student there.
“The knight is nominated by students, elected by the faculty, and awarded to the senior who best exemplifies the qualities of integrity, loyalty, courage, and it’s a person of character who served as a role model for everyone,” Haley Deeds, the school’s principal, said at the first day ceremony.
