Local pediatrician says nightly routine key to success in the classroom

DALEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – As we transition from Summer vacation to the start of Fall and the beginning of a new school year, parents can take a few steps to set their kids up for success in the classroom. It’s a transition that parents need to start early, and it begins with a good night’s sleep.

Dr. Ryan Fulton works with Carilion Children’s Pediatric Medicine. He says that when it comes to young kids, their nightly routine can have a direct impact on their school day.

“[For Elementary School students] you want to get ten to twelve hours of sleep. That’s going to be ideal for the amount of energy they’re going to need throughout the day, both mental and physical energy,” Dr. Fulton said…
