ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Mild conditions will continue tonight with the chance for patchy dense fog to develop towards the morning in the valleys. Into Sunday afternoon, skies become partly cloudy with plenty of sunshine and hot conditions. High temperatures will reach the mid 80s to lower 90s with heat index values a few degrees higher.
The day looks dry for most; however, an approaching cold front from the northwest may try to spark a few showers or storms in the late afternoon into the evening. The best chance for any rain would be along and west of the Blue Ridge and up towards the Highlands.
As this front gets closer by mid-week, we will see a daily chance for afternoon/evening showers and storms. Each day, not everyone will see rain as coverage will be widely scattered.
With the front stalled by Wednesday into Thursday while it waits for Hurrican Erin to pass between the U.S. and Bermuda on its way northeast, we continue to have scattered showers and storms with abundant moisture present.
Daily storm chances persist into the end of the week with high temperatures falling below average in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
