Man accused in murder of Roanoke aging director enters guilty plea in court

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- The man charged in the assault and murder of Local Office on Aging executive director, Susan Williams, 80, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

According to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney John McNeil, Jr., Kurt James Davis switched his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty” during a court hearing held Monday, August 25. Circuit Court Judge David Carson accepted the plea and found Davis guilty of first-degree murder.

According to police, Williams was assaulted and murdered on February 19, 2025, while out walking her dog on Yellow Mountain Road. Investigators said Williams was in the hallway of the apartment complex when she was assaulted. There was no indication that Williams and Davis knew each other.

Judge Carson order a pre-sentencing investigation. A sentencing hearing was set for December 1, 2025. Davis is currently being held in the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center…
