Death reported at Roanoke detention center

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- Officials at the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center report the death of person who apparently had a medical emergency during the booking process.

According to Tameka Paige, public information officer with the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified person was picked up on a commitment order. The individual started to show signs of a medical emergency while in the medical examination room. Paige said medical staff began life-saving measures until “Fire/EMS personnel arrived and assumed care.”

The individual was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
