Pinpoint Weather: Few rain chances over the Labor Day weekend

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Saturday will be a nice day to kick off the three-day weekend with high temperatures in the mid 70s to lower 80s under a mix of sun and clouds.

Much of the region will stay dry, although a few stray pop-up showers or storms cannot be ruled out over the New River Valley with the best chance closer to the Mountain Empire.

As high pressure moves in just to our north, easterly flow into the Appalachians will pick up some Atlantic moisture and lead to more cloud cover and cooler temperatures for Sunday. This will also bring a chance for scattered showers and storms to develop in the afternoon, mainly along and west of the Blue Ridge.

Rain chance drop again for Labor Day itself on Monday with variably cloudy skies and comfortable temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s with lower humidity.

The next best chance of rain will arrive later in the week towards Wednesday and Thursday with a cold front, although there is uncertainty on the exact timing as of now. Otherwise, temperatures remain below average in the 70s with mornings in the 50s.

Tracking the Tropics: Atropical wave will be moving off the African coast by Sunday where there is currently a low chance for development next week as it moves westwards.

Otherwise, the tropics will stay quiet to close out the month of August…
