On Monday evening, the Salem City Council will consider a special exemption permit to allow for outdoor cooking, a seating area and live music as part of an expansion of Dilly Dally Market.
The market was closed temporarily while a new owner was found. Maggie Brill now plans to reopen it as a convenience store and deli, like the original market, but with occasional outdoor events and live music in the backyard.
The owner is also looking to put a smoker in the backyard under a covered structure. Agenda documents say the owner will smoke and grill pulled pork barbecue, brisket and hot dogs for sale. The owner also installed fencing around the perimeter of the backyard area.
At an Aug. 13 planning commission meeting, Brill said that she got great feedback from neighbors adjacent to the property, and that everyone is “extremely excited” about the market’s reopening…
