First responders commemorate 9/11 in Salem

SALEM, Va. (WFXR)- First responders and members of the community gathered together Thursday morning to honor the nearly 3,000 people who died during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

It was held in downtown Salem, by a steel beam that was once a part of the north tower of the World Trade Center. According to officials, it was restored and anchored “on the city’s Public Safety corner in 2015.”

The event was led by the Salem Fire and EMS Chief Steve Simon, Police Chief Derek Weeks, and Sheriff Chris Shelor. It included a moment of silence, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, tolling of the bell, and a performance of the National Anthem by Crystal Williams…
