ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Every two weeks, the City of Roanoke’s facilities team treks up Mill Mountain to inspect one of the area’s most beloved landmarks: the Mill Mountain Star.
But on a recent routine inspection, facilities manager John McGhee and his crew found something that made them take pause.
“We noticed there was some pretty extensive damage in one area,” said McGhee. “We think it was caused by high winds or wind shear. The bulbs, insulators, and standoffs were all affected, and that doesn’t happen often.”…
