New Roanoke VFW mural honors World War One vets and famous poem

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — You may have seen our anchors wearing red poppy pins this morning during Good Day Virginia. They were given to us by the Roanoke Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1264 as part of the post’s commemoration of the “In Flanders Fields” and the poem that honors veterans of World War One.

The post on Grandview Avenue has also unveiled a new mural on an outside wall that shows the poppies the Flanders Fields are famous for.

Local artist Lisa Floyd painted the work: “I put myself into everything, I’ve been doing them for 45 years, since i was 15, so I’ve done hundreds and I love how each one is so unique to each place that i do.”…
