“I feel like I am following my purpose.” Sickle Cell Collaborative team member shares experience

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Ariel Salisbury works with Sickle Cell patients. She’s the program manager of the sickle cell collaborative with Carilion Clinic.

The team makes sure Sickle Cell patients all over Southwest Virginia don’t slip through the cracks and get overlooked. The work doesn’t stop when a patient is discharged from the hospital. The team follows them to their appointments, being a voice for them, even ensuring they have transportation to get there.

“I am not just a nurse to these patients. Like, I am a part of their lives. They become family. I have been invited to birthday parties ,all types of events, just for the sake of me helping these patients and just being a major support to them. And it feels good. I feel like I am following my purpose,” Salisbury said…
