ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke City Council unanimously approved three flood mitigation projects within some of the city’s flood-prone areas.
It received $7.1 million from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, as part of its Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund, to do them.
Two grants involve purchasing property along the floodplains of both Tinker Creek and the Roanoke River, and demolishing them, to widen the basin, where water can safely flatten out, and slow the flow of water so that it won’t concentrate as quickly…
