Roanoke families rally to spotlight fentanyl crisis awareness with billboards

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Twelve families that have lost a loved one to fentanyl gathered in Roanoke on Saturday for the unveiling of two billboards on Orange Avenue featuring 19 faces of the fentanyl crisis.

Those billboards, presented by Ohio-based nonprofit Rachel’s Angels and Commonwealth-based Virginia Moms, and a shared grief brought the families together to voice their stories and connect with others.

“It’s difficult on the families to do this,” said Sarah Link, a fentanyl victim advocate with Virginia Moms. “It brings up a lot of memories for them. It’s something that they actually will never get over. Most of the folks here are parents and have lost a child. Their life is forever changed.”…
