Roanoke considers casino to drive economic growth and jobs

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- City officials in Roanoke are exploring the idea of bringing a casino to the Berglund Special Events Center.

The idea would create the Roanoke Entertainment District at the civic center. Officials said the plan would produce hundreds of local jobs.

City officials estimate it would receive six percent of the first $100 million in gaming revenue.

“This initiative presents an opportunity to create an entertainment district that would significantly enhance tourism, stimulate economic growth, and generate increased revenue for both the City and the region—funds that can be reinvested in our neighborhoods, schools, public safety, and infrastructure,” said city manager Valmarie Turner…
