BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) – An emotional return to the National D-Day Memorial, with veterans, guardians and everyone else who made this honor flight possible rejoining and reminiscing.
It began on the shuttle, where one of the guardians surprised the veterans with the Honor Flight tradition of Mail Call. Each one received letters and posters from loved ones.
“It was the highlight of the cruise in the middle of the ocean, when you hear from home, and there’s nothing like it,” four-year Navy veteran Reuben Lewis Jr. said. “To have a mail call on this trip, it just brings back so many memories.”
