BOONES MILL, Va. (WDBJ) – The Boones Mill Volunteer Fire Department and Franklin County are in a stalemate over funding for a new tanker truck for the department.
The fire department has been in need of a new tanker trunk since its old tanker was totaled in February during an ice storm. However, so far, the department and Franklin County have been unable to agree on the type of tanker truck the department needs and the amount of money that should be spent on it.
“The county is trying to get us to get sort of a stock off-the-shelf tanker that pretty much hauls water, and that’s about all it does. What we had before would obviously haul water, but it was also fully capable of being a fire engine. It carried all the equipment and accessories it needed to fight fire,” said Lt.
