ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke County Public School Board has announced that it has named Dr. James “Jamie” Soltis as the next superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools (RCPS).
According to officials, Dr. Soltis, who will succeed Dr. Ken Nicely, will become the superintendent effective on July 1, 2026. Reportedly, Dr. Nicely announced his retirement after 33 years with RCPS in September 2025.
Dr. Soltis is currently serving as deputy superintendent for Roanoke County Public Schools. Officials say Dr. Soltis began his RCPS career in 1999 as a science teacher at William Byrd High School.
