Join RVSPCA’s Spayghetti event to curb pet overpopulation

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – If you are still deciding on your lunch or dinner plans, well, the Roanoke Valley SPCA has you covered, as Italian is on the menu. It’s time for the shelter’s annual “SPAYghetti” event on Tuesday, October 28th, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

At the RVSPCA, a spay and neuter procedure can cost over $160, and that’s with their own in-house veterinarian. Other places without that expertise can be even more expensive. That’s why the shelter’s CEO, Denise Hayes, says this event is so important to the shelter.

“In the Roanoke Valley and southwest Virginia, there are more pets than we have homes for at this point in time,” Hayes said. “So by spaying and neutering all of the pets before they leave the shelter, we’re helping decrease the overpopulation of pets, and so we can make sure that we’re not adding to the problem that’s happening in the community…
