Government shutdown impacting Toys for Tots

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – An annual holiday tradition in our hometowns is being impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.

Each year, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve collects and distributes toys for children in need as part of its Toys for Tots program, but this year, it’s limited in what it can do due to the shutdown.

“This year, with the Marines and with the things going on with our country, it’s kind of hard to do it with the Marines. So we’ve actually gone a different direction and have volunteers trying to distribute the boxes that typically the Marines do,” said Jason Lane, owner of Savvy Events, and a Toys for Tots partner…
