BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)- Fire crews from multiple agencies are battling two brush fires underway in the Jefferson National Forest between Botetourt and Craig counties.
According to Botetourt County Fire and EMS, around 7:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 5, crews responded to a brush fire located near Bald Mountain and the Oriskany community.
A special drone or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) was deployed, which confirmed the fire was located in the national forest. Crews also discovered a second fire roughly two miles away.
High winds and dry conditions fuel Bedford County brush fires
By Thursday morning, the first fire was largely contained, the press release stated. However, the second fire had grown. It was estimated to be 380 acres on Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, the brush fire was reportedly more than 1,600 acres. Officials said high winds and low humidity helped to fuel the fire.
The fire threatened one hunting cabin. Firefighters said no other homes are currently at risk…
