New Nurse Aide Certification Program in Roanoke Offers Training and Job Opportunities for Local Residents

Virginia Western Community College and Total Action for Progress (TAP) are working together to offer a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program in Roanoke, Virginia. The program is designed to help meet the local need for CNAs. It provides a five-and-a-half-week course at the Roanoke Higher Education Center. The course includes classroom lessons and hands-on clinical training. Students can start working in healthcare after earning their certification.

Spring Abney, RN program coordinator for TAP, said that financial aid is available. This can help make the $3,495 tuition more affordable for eligible Virginia residents. The cost covers all materials, job placement support, and on-site certification testing.

The CNA program offers 143-150 hours of training, which is more than the state minimum. The State Board of Nursing has approved the curriculum. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. New groups of students start about every six weeks. The next session begins on January 8, 2026. Registration is open until December 23, 2025, or until all spots are filled…
