Roanoke Valley SPCA starts “Home for Holidays” foster plan

ROANOKE, VA. (WFXR) – For those looking for a new friend during the holidays, the Roanoke Valley SPCA is looking for fosters to fill up its Home for the Holidays program. This aims to clear out the shelters from December 21st until January 5th or 6th.

“We will try and get everyone out of the shelter and into a loving foster home for the holidays,” said Julie Rickmond, the marketing and communications director with the RVSPCA. “We provide all the support that you need and all the supplies. So, food, bedding, everything that you need, you just open up your heart and your home to a pet for at least a couple of weeks.”

They’re especially looking for fosters for adult cats, large dogs, and back-up fosters in case of any foster emergencies. Also, if you happen to fall in love with your foster, you get first dibs to adopt.

“It also allows our staff to have some time that they can spend with their families,” said Rickmond. “It gives everybody kind of a break, and that nice, warm, comforting home for the holidays.”…
