Bedford Warming Shelter opens weeks earlier due to frigid temperatures

BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) — Due to the snow and the frigid temperatures our area has seen the last several weeks, the Bedford Warming Shelter has opened for anyone who needs a place to go.

Tim Brooke, a liaison for the center, shared that they are located at the Bedford Presbyterian Community Center at 112 Center Street. Brooke shared that they are able to offer people a warm place to sleep. get a hot meal, take a shower, and do their laundry.

Brooke said they planned to open after Christmas, but because he saw a need, they went ahead and opened near the end of November. As a former Bedford Police Officer, Brooke said that he knows firsthand the needs of his community, and because of the partnerships he’s made, he and the volunteers are able to help meet the needs of people in the community…
