Medical condition suspected in fatal Roanoke crash

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- Police in Roanoke said the driver involved in a fatal two-vehicle collision apparently had a medical condition before the crash.

The crash occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, December 12 at the intersection of U.S. 220 and Old Rocky Mount Road SW.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, the driver of a Honda Pilot, traveling southbound on U.S. 220, lost consciousness, causing their foot to depress the gas pedal. Police said the passenger took off their seat belt in an attempt to control the vehicle. The Pilot struck a Jeep Compass, hit a curb, rolled multiple times, and struck a utility pole. The passenger was ejected during the crash.

The Pilot’s driver, identified as Forrestt Kevin Vogt, 69, of Callaway, was found dead in the vehicle. The passenger, along with two occupants in the Jeep, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries…
