BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Trucks loaded with toys were delivered to schools across Bedford County for the sheriff’s department’s annual “Toys for Kids” drive. A record number of children were gifted this year through the help of the community.
“When you can share your blessings, and you can help other people. That’s what the world’s about, you know, that’s what it’s about. It’s about being able to help your neighbor that struggling right now, because who knows, tomorrow you may be that neighbor who needs that help,” said Mike Miller, the Bedford County sheriff.
A record number of 498 children were “adopted” by department employees and community members, who went out and bought gifts so each one would wake up Christmas morning to a gift.

“It breaks my heart to think of a child showing up after the Christmas break, and they saw that Santa brought their friends stuff and didn’t bring them anything. That tells the child that they’re not important enough, even for Santa,” said Stacey Vaught, the president at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. “So, it’s really important to me that they feel like they matter, and that they are taken care of for Christmas.”…
