ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) For the second year in a row, the minimum wage in Virginia is going up, going from the current $12.46 per hour to an expected $12.77 per hour.
There are not too many people in Central and Southwestern Virginia who will feel the effects of this.
“Most of our sectors in the Roanoke-Lynchburg area are already paying their workers more than the minimum wage,” Tim Saunders, the deputy director of the Central and Southwestern Virginia Workforce Development Board, said. “The average salary for workers in things like manufacturing, healthcare, construction trades, and workers in those industries, even at the entry level, are already making well above the minimum wage.”…
