ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Housing affordability remains one of the top issues in the City of Roanoke, where supply of affordable housing units is still far outpaced by demand.
Virginia Delegate Sam Rasoul has introduced House Bill 181 in response, which if passed would give the city of Roanoke the ability to expand its availability of affordable housing.
“More and more [Roanoke residents] are struggling with the price of housing, whether that be renting or purchasing,” said Rasoul, who represents the 38th district in the Virginia House of Delegates. “What this does is it allows Roanoke to be able to say with any new development, let’s just make sure a certain percentage of that development is truly an affordable dwelling unit.”…
