Rain falls in Roanoke after weeks of dry weather

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – After an extended dry spell that left lawns, garden beds and soil craving moisture, rain returned to the Roanoke area, helping recharge dry earth and quench thirsty plants.

“We love the rain. I mean, any natural rainfall we get is so much better than you can do on your own,” said Jennifer Monroe, owner of Greenbrier Nurseries.

Monroe noted that when heavy rain follows a long period of dryness, much of the water initially runs off the hardened ground into ditches and streets. However, the rain will eventually soak in, replenishing deeper soil levels…
