BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A cow trapped in a muddy pond in Bedford County was safely rescued Sunday morning as part of a coordinated effort by multiple emergency response teams.
According to the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, crews responded around 10:41 a.m. to Moneta with the Bedford County Special Operations Command Task Force (SOC).
Crews responded to reports of a cow stuck in a newly constructed pond. Upon arrival, team members found the animal partially submerged near the waterline. The cow was sitting in the water, exhausted, after repeatedly trying to free one of her legs that was suctioned in thick mud, officials said.

Members of the Large Animal Rescue (LAR) team quickly developed an operational plan to free the female cow. Using a mud lance, crews were able to disperse the silt from around the leg.
