Crews prep for more snow while Commonwealth roads remain icy

ROANOKE/SALEM/RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – With more snowy weather being forecast across our hometowns Friday evening, January 30 until Sunday, February 1, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the City of Roanoke are preparing for the weather impact on roads as they remain icy from the previous weekend.

The City of Roanoke says crews will receive more loads of salt in preparation of the storm; 3.5 million pounds have been used so far. It also says salt spread throughout the streets this week will also act as a pretreatment for any snow arrival.

VDOT says the Salem District maintains more than 9,200 miles, including more than 7,300 miles of secondary routes…
