Roanoke firefighters return home after basement fire injury

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)- Two Roanoke City firefighters injured when the floor collapsed inside a burning home have been released from the hospital.

Four firefighters were injured during the mayday call on Thursday, January 29 while battling a blaze in the 2700 block of Courtland Avenue. According to the family living in the home, the fire originated from a furnace in the basement. It quickly spread. Most of the family living in the home were able to make it out on their own. Fire crews rescued one person from the first floor.

The mayday call was made at 11:01 a.m. The four injured firefighters were rescued within five minutes. Two of them were released from the hospital that day. On Tuesday, February 3, the department announced that all four firefighters are now recovering at home.
