ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A Great Horned Owl will be free to soar the skies again at the Roanoke Star this Tuesday, Feb. 10, following its six-month rehabilitation with the SWVA Wildlife Center.
In August 2025, a Mill Mountain Estates area resident discovered an injured owl on the ground, unable to fly. The SWVA Wildlife Center admitted the animal and found that the adult owl sustained damage to both wings with swelling to its chest, but showed no signs of noticeable fractures. It was determined by the center that a car had likely struck the bird.
Staff quickly worked to nurture the animal back to health. After the patient graduated to an outdoor enclosure, it began to fly again…
