Hometown Health: Doctors urge monthly self-checks between regular screenings

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Doctors continue to push for regular health screenings that can identify problems early when they’re most treatable, often before symptoms appear. But between those exams, medical experts say it’s important to be your own health advocate at home.

Dr. John Hanicak with Cleveland Clinic says self-checks are critical and should be done monthly.

“I think of it like a check engine light, you know, your body is really good at sending you signs and symptoms to let you know that something is going on,” said Hanicak, who practices family medicine.
