ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia Senate passed a bill Thursday almost unanimously, directing the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to explore alternate options to salting roads.
The salt works to melt ice in the winter, but it can also contaminate freshwater ecosystems. Senate Bill 482 stated that VDOT must conduct an environmental study.
The department also has to provide the financial data from treating roads since 2020, plus an estimated cost of treating them from 2026 through 2028…
