Man pleads guilty to manslaughter and maiming for DUI crash

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A Roanoke man is scheduled to be sentenced in June for a crash in which one woman was killed and another seriously injured.

February 24, 2026, Xaviar James Gaither appeared in Roanoke City Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to the aggravated involuntary manslaughter of Brooklyn Goff and the aggravated DUI maiming of Jessica Sprinkel.

Sentencing is set for June 2, with the sentence at the discretion of the sentencing judge. On the manslaughter charge, the maximum sentence is 20 years in prison; for the DUI maiming charge, it’s ten years.
