Blacksburg, VA – Drivers along the Interstate 81 corridor could face sudden severe storms by Wednesday evening as a powerful cold front pushes toward Southwest Virginia, bringing wind gusts over 60 mph capable of snapping tree limbs and knocking out power.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Level 2 severe storm risk stretches northwest of I-81 into parts of southern West Virginia, including areas near Bluefield and Lewisburg. Much of Southwest Virginia, including Roanoke, Wytheville, and Lynchburg, sits in a Level 1 risk zone.
