Sheriff’s office searches Bedford Primary School after student claims to have gun

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of Bedford Primary School on Friday after a student apparently told classmates that he had a gun in his backpack, which turned out to be false.

Superintendent of Bedford County Schools William Dupere sent a letter to families about the incident on Friday afternoon. According to Dupere, two students reported to a teacher that a classmate had said he had a gun in his back. Safety protocols were immediately enacted and the school was put on a hold.

The student in question was removed from the classroom, and the sheriff’s office thoroughly searched the building and the students’ belongings, with the help of a K-9 officer. No weapon was found…
