Despite operating at a deficit, Market on Melrose says best times are ahead

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Before Market on Melrose, the neighborhoods in northwest Roanoke were considered a food desert, without easy access to fresh produce and meat for more than 40 years.

After opening in November of 2024, Market on Melrose made it a mission to change that.

“They really needed one because the nearest grocery store here, I guess, would be up towards Salem or further down Peters Creek (Road),” Roanoke resident Delores Brown, who visited Market on Melrose for the first time on Tuesday, said. “I don’t get over in this area that often, so I’m not quite sure.”…
